Cans for Kids is the work of Brighter Tomorrows Unlimited, a non-profit organization in Brunswick County, North Carolina. The mission of BTU is to recycle aluminum cans and donate the proceeds in the form of annual scholarship funds to graduating, highschool seniors.

The program started in November 1994 through the inspiration of elementary school children in Southport, NC. The idea was simple. Collect and recycle aluminum cans, and donate the money to help kids. What started with a bag of cans at a doorstep soon blossomed into 100,000 cans. Since then the community has helped us recycle 8 million cans, generating $90,000 in scholarship funds given out year to date to 4,000 kids! The kids proved they could do anything they set their minds and hearts to!

We’ve been going strong ever since, recycling more cans each year and helping more and more kids. And to further share our story and fuel community involvement, we’re undertaking the process of redesigning our web site. Please check back in the next few days to see the exciting new changes. We'll have more information about how you can get involved, photos from recent activities and information about our organization. We're very excited about the new site, and we think you will be too.

So for now, we thank you for your patience and hope you’ll drop by again. In the meantime, please feel free to send us an email. We welcome your ideas and questions.

Sincerely,

Your friends at BTU
